Miklós Telegdi (1535-1586)
The first significant Catholic ecclesiastic writer of the 16th century who wrote in Hungarian. He founded a printing house in Nagyszombat and formed a literary circle together with András Monoszlóy and Lukács Pécsi. His most significant work was the three volumes of his postillas (Vienna-Nagyszombat, 157-1580). Péter Bornemisza made sharp attacks on Telegdi's preaching in his article of dispute under the title of Argumentation (1578). Telegdi did not hesitate to retaliate in his work the Reply (Nagyszombat, 1580): he was the first Catholic writer who reversed the accusation on Protestants - Péter Pázmány learned a lot from Telekdi's works and applied his method of debate.
