superintendents (Latin)

This was the title of bishops in the Hungarian Protestant Churches until the 19th century. Differently from being a Catholic bishop, a superintendent is only a church-governing appointment and not a successor of an apostle. This position is fulfilled by an elected minister who controlled the life of a parish together with the chief caretaker
