articular places (Latin articulus - article, articularis - according to articles)
Places, where public Calvinist and Lutheran religious practice was permitted by the 1681 parliament. The law limited the free practice of religion for Protestants to 2 or 3 places in 11 western and north-western castle districts of the country. In the eastern part of the country they could practice their religion in places where they had a church. Articular places were withdrawn partly by József II's (1780-1790) tolerance bill, and finally by the 1790/1791 parliament.
