place of pilgrimage
It is often a spring, well, picture, sculpture, to which miraculous visions and recoveries are attributed. Near these springs and wells we can find chapels and churches, where the miraculous pictures or sculptures are kept. There are two big groups of places of pilgrimage: 1. Their range of attraction is a big area, the visitors receive the indulgence granted by the church. 2. Less significant places, which are visited by local people. In most cases the places of pilgrimage were created by the belief of common people based on a vision or miracle. These miraculous stories spread and made the places popular and accepted by the church.
