minbar

Pulpit
A pulpit on the left of the mihrab niche, where the Friday sermon, the hutbe was recited. The oldest minbars are from the 11th century, these were made of wooden boards with holes. During the reign of the mameluk sultans minbars were made of stone or sometimes marble in Cairo and in Turkey. There were fragments of minbars in Hungarian Turkish jamis, for example in the Fethijje jami in the Buda castle (Maria Magdalena church).
