horse-gear dry mill

It was the most popular type of dry mills. The power originated from a huge spoked wooden wheel, to which the draught animal was tied with a harness. As the animal went round and round it pulled the wheel and the spokes. The cogs at the edge of the wheel forwarded the rotational energy to the machine-tool, graining and hulling machines. Horse-gear dry mills had two types: in its general version the pull wheel was close to the ground so it could be placed to a lower building. Sometimes the wheel was placed higher, in this case pulling jibs were attached to the driving wheel.
