It was a sweet soft drink made by gingerbread producers. Star anise was added to a bucket of honey and two buckets of water, it was mixed and boiled. The cool syrup was stored in barrels. When it was retailed it was diluted with water and cooled with ice. It was a very popular drink at markets and patronal festivals.
