historical song

It was one of the most popular poetic genres of the 16th century. The ones which described ancient events in the past are called historical songs (such as Péter Ilosvay Selymes's Toldi), while the ones describing the topics of the recent past were called corresponding songs (the majority of Tinódi's songs are this kind of songs). From the end of the 16th century this genre was gradually dying out. A late cultivator, György Tardi, who wrote about the 1588 battle of Szikszó, sadly describes the decline of this genre.
