Text printed to the edge of the paper - it imitated the glosses (notes) of codices on the margins. As footnotes were not printed at that time, in bigger theological and scientific works - where a lot of technical terms were used - references were written on the margins. Péter Bornemisza, Miklós Telegdi and Gáspár Heltai put individual, interesting notes on the margin of books, not only official ones.
