Benedek Abádi

Printing press
He studied at the university of Krakow in 1533-1534, and he studied to be a printer as well, in the famous Vietor workshop. Hungarian intellectuals had close cultural connections with Krakow at that time. The first Hungarian books were printed there. Abádi supported Protestantism. He took part in printing Mátyás Dévai Bíró's book on Hungarian spelling in Krakow. In 1540 he came to Hungary because Tamás Nádasdy invited him to take over the printing house of Sárvárújsziget. Later he studied in Wittenberg at Nádasdy's expense, then he came home and became a priest in Szeged, which was part of the occupied region. Here he took part in a Catholic-Protestant theological debate under Turkish arbitration, which was won by the Protestants.
