wedding song

Széphistória
It was a popular genre of verse in the 16th century. It was different from ancient and humanist epithalamiums. It used elements from folk poetry, metaphors and similes of the common language: it reflected folk culture. The size of wedding songs differed, there were shorter, humorous ones which mocked women, and there were longer ones, which described contemporary folk traditions, plays and proverbs in detail. One of the most popular wedding songs was the Szamosmenti Anonym's mocking poem, Adhortion mulierum (Adhortion to Women, around 1550).
