Petrarcan love
Through Petrarc's Songbook (he was a 14th-century poet, who lived in Italy) renaissance love poetry, different from court lyrics, spread throughout Europe. In the centre of the poems there is a female figure, the loved, ideal women, her beauty and the author's hopeless desire for her love. Although the poet would like to rid himself of his tortured feelings, Cupid does let him and makes him the prisoner of love. Escaping from love is in vain, since for him love - although it is hopeless - is the meaning of life. Because of his situation Petrarcan love poetry there are poses and patterns. The poet uses some elements: the motifs of compliment, being pitiful, and reproach are alternating.
