Cartesianism

The notion originates from René Descart's Latin name (Cartesius). Hungairna Puritan encyclopedists became familiar with the Descart's rational critical method and scepticism in Holland. After they had returned home, they could not or did not want to express their Cartesianism because of the strong orthodox Calvinist resistance. Cartesianism had an influence on the works of Apáczai, Márton Szilágyi Tönko (1642-1700), Miklós Apáti (1642-1700) and János Szathmári Pap (1657-1708).
