gazel

A verse form containing 4-15 beyts, the most popular genre of divan poets. The rhyme pattern was the following: aa ba ca da ea ... na. In the last beyt the poet names himself in his code-name (mahlas). In their content beyts make up a closed unit in themselves, but gazels rarely have a logical system.
