Thomas, Jan (1617-1678)
A Flemish painter and engraver, a disciple of Peter Pauwel Rubens. Later in his life he settled in Germany. By 1661 at the latest he moved to Vienna where he painted large compositions and portraits for the court. During this time he also worked for Czech and Hungarian clients; his portrait of the poet Miklós Zrínyi, for example, dates from this period.
