István Fejérkövy
Bishop of Nyitra (Nitra, Slovakia) and an important Renaissance patron. His adherence to tradition is well exemplified by the fact that in his tombstone, erected in his lifetime in the St. Emmeram cathedral in Nyitra (in 1588, the year in which he occupied the bishop's seat), the pose of the figure repeats that of the tombstone of Gergely Berzeviczy, also Bishop of Nyitra (d. 1437), which dates from one hundred years earlier. The face of the figure is, however, an authentic portrait, and its embroidered chasuble with the image of the bishop's patron saint, St. Stephen protomartyr is also pictured realistically. A relief in the Franciscan church of Pozsony (Bratislava, Slovakia), in which Fejérkövy is portrayed kneeling at the foot of the Crucified, with his patron saint, is related to the contemporary Late Renaissance stone epitaphs.
