wall monument
One of the most representative types of funerary monuments whose structure, often several meters high, is built against the wall of a church. In the centre of the coloured marble, unified architectonic structure of Late Renaissance wall monuments stands the figure of the deceased, with inscribed plaques and coats of arms above and below him. Sometimes allegorical figures stand on both sides, as in the funerary monuments of Gáspár Illésházy in Bazin (Pezinok, Slovakia) and of György Thurzó in Trencsén (Trenčín, Slovakia) (1616).
