Haller, Gábor (1614-1663)

A member of the famous Haller family of Hallerkeő. Between 1630 and 1636 he studied philosophy and theology at universities in Europe, and was also trained as an architect. From 1637 he was entrusted by György Rákóczi I with various architectural tasks. He worked in Fogaras (Făgăraş), Várad (Oradea), Sárospatak, Székelyhíd (Săcueni), and elsewhere. In 1651 György Rákóczi II appointed him castellan of Borosjenő (Ineu), where he constructed an entirely new fortification system around the castle.
