Sebestyén Hann was born in Lőcse (Levoča, Slovakia) and came to Nagyszeben (Sibiu, Romania) as a young man. He entered the goldsmiths' guild there by marrying the widow of a goldsmith. Later he became the leading master of the guild and a town senator. He was a famous and much sought-after master of his day; about sixty of his works have come down to us. Many of them are in the Brukenthal Museum of Nagyszeben, but the Hungarian National Museum and the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest have also preserved some of his works.
