the portrait of Mária Krisztierna (1574-1621)

Maria Krisztierna 1
The miniature portrait of Mária Krisztierna, the wife of Zsigmond Báthory, which was discovered in a Hungarian private collection about a fifteen years ago, has been attributed to Ottavio Zanuoli, an Italian painter active in the archducal court in Graz. Zanuoli portrayed the archduchess full-figure, similarly to the portraits he made of the other members of the family. This small portrait was made for private use and not for representation.
