Petrarch, Celtis, Erasmus, Jacobus Piso
Petrarch (1304-1374)
Italian poet, whose original name was Francesco Petracco, the father of humanism. He was one of the most outstanding poets of the world. Today he is famous for his Songbook written in Italian, but he himself, his contemporaries and the forthcoming generations praised his Latin poetry and prose. He was the initiator of several humanist efforts, for example, he drew attention to ancient authors, moving away from medieval scholasticism. He found new moral and stylistic models in the ancient authors and developed a new behaviour for scientists as well.
