George (György) Handó († around 1480)

He studied in Vienna, then from 1451 in Ferrara. He became a doctor of law in Padua. From 1465 he was a dean in Pécs, and from 1478 the Archbishop of Kalocsa. He worked in Matthias's chancellery, and before his death he was the chief chancellor. The king entrusted him with important diplomatic duties. When he returned from his ministry in Naples, he bought a lot of books in Florence and established a huge library in Pécs, which had about 300 volumes. His biography was written by Vespasiano da Bisticci.

Sebastian (Sebestyén) Magyi (Sebastianus Maghius, early 16th century)

A humanist poet and philologist. He studied at the universities of Cracow (1508) and Bologne (1509-1513) with the patronage of George Szatmári. In 1513 he published the second edition of Janus Pannonius' Guarino paneGyRicus (the first edition was published in Vienna in 1512) in Bologne. After returning home he became a priest in Nagyszöllős, and from 1516 the reading canon in Várad.

Martin (Márton) Nagyszombati (Martinus Thyrnavinus, 16th century)

Humanist poet, Benedictine monk, a prior. His Studia humanitatis or humaniora includes grammar, rhetoric, poetry (and literature), history, moral philosophy, and the humanist was the teacher and master of these subjects, or the one who carried out scientific work in these fields.

Valentine (Bálint) Hagymási (Valentinus Cybeleius, 1490 ? - 1517)

He studied at the university of Bologne at the Bishop of Pécs, George Szatmári's expenses. From 1512 he became canon of Pécs and Székesfehérvár.
