mass, holy mass

The most important service of the catholic church. It is a renewal of Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross without blood, which was founded by Jesus himself, on the occasion of the last supper. Its most important part is the holy communion, when the priest who celebrates the mass transforms the host into Christ's body and the wine into Christ's blood. These could be taken by the believers, and this is called the holy communion.

patron saint (Latin patronus, patrocinium, titulus)

Since the adoption of Christianity, there was a general tradition in Hungary that churches, monasteries were built in the honour of a guardian, a heavenly patron, a saint. These saint should protect the churches, so they were called protective or patron saints. The title does not refer to the saint, but to a religious secret (for example, the Holy Cross) or a divine person (e.g.: the Holy Spirit). The church titles named after them often became the eponym of settlements. The possessions of church institutions (bishoprics, chapters, monasteries) were in the possession of the patron saint ot title according to contemporary views.
