international Gothic style

Art in the last third of the 14th century and in the first third of the 15th century. It was a trend in art which adopted the style of 14th-century French court art. It appeared in the continent in a unified form, developing from the international culture of European cities and aristocratic courts. With the expansion of the emperor's court to the east, Prague, Buda then became the important center of the international Gothic style besides Italian and Western-European urban centers. In architecture, the art of the Parler family played the leading role in the Central-European region. In fine arts this style is usually called the "soft style".

soft style

The accompanying style of international Gothic art. It can be characterised by soft, smooth drapery representations with fine shadows, and graceful, detailed representation of men. Its models come from the art of French courts at the first half of the 14th century. Later France remained one of its most important centers, but from the middle of the century the Czech state and Central-Erope played a siginificant role in spreading this style (for example, the circle of "beautiful Madonnas").
