St Martin church and Town Hall of Pozsony
the St Martin parish church of Pozsony
The parish church of Pozsony became the church of the Pozsony provostship - which originally stood in the castle - by the late Middle Ages. Its earliest parts are from the middle of the 14th century, and these suvived from the northern side-aisle. The tympanum of the northern gates, which represents the Holy Trinity, is an important relic of Hungarian sculpture of this period. As the next stage of the construction the building of the western part as started. Two-storey chapels were built around the western tower in the middle. The year 1401 on the foot of the southern chapel shows the date of the constructions. In the parts of the western longitudinal house there were gates on the northern side and a round, then a double pointed window on the southern side. Gates were also planned for the chapel on the southern side, near the tower, but later it was bricked up, as the new city wall - which was built around 1430 - included the church spire, too. The southern chapel was vaulted then. The nave of the church was completed in the middle of the 15th century.

The Town Hall of Pozsony
It was the palace of Judge Jacob (1326-1373) in the main square of the town. The City Council held some meetings in the ceremonial hall of the building, and in 1370 the prison was built next to it. After Jacob's death his sons shared the building. One of the boys, Paul, sold the northern part of the house to Isaac, Jew in 1387, but the city bought that in the same year. The two parts were then separated by a wall. The date of the constructions of the northern side and tower might have been around 1380, but the connection with the tower of the Franciscan church suggest the beginning of the 15th century. The other, southern, part was bought by the city in 1421. The territory of the street next to the Town Hall was bought by Hans Pawer, member of the city council, in 1422. Here he had a pompous house built for himself. This house was bought by the city between 1430-34 and attached to the Town Hall. Then the wing near the street was rebuilt: decorative gates were built with a chapel over it. The City Council moved into this renewed building in 1437.
