St Sigismund provostship of Buda
King Sigismund had the communal chapters - dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St Sigismund - built between 1410-1424 in the foreground of the palace of Buda. The St Sigismund church had the same size and ground-plan as the Mary Magdalena parish church of Buda. The church choir of canons was separated by a partition wall with stone bars. The building was decorated with sculptures. At the beginning of the 16th century the church was damaged during a siege, and its roof burnt down. Its broken furniture and sculptures were buried in a pit in the yard of a neighbouring prepost house. The fragments of sculptures show similarities with the 1974 Gothic scupture findings of Buda, so we can presume that the sculptures of the findings were originally made for the St Sigismund church as well.
