The room in monasteries, cathedrals and communal chapters where the priests gathered to read religious texts and settle common matters. It was usually on the eastern side of the ambulatory of monasteries. In the Middle Ages it was generally a two-naved hall or a central room. It was the most decorative part of monasteries.
