There is no exhaustive treatment of the later Nyugat poets; B. Lengyel’s A mai magyar lira (1948) and L. Rónay’s Az Ezüstkor nemzedéke (1967) are good introductions.

There is a growing literature on Radnóti. Of the monographs the following should be consulted. I. Bori: Radnóti Miklós költészete (Újvidék, 1965); D. Baróti: Kortárs útlevelére (1977), written by a former friend in the Art College of Szeged Youth; and a concise work by B. Pomogáts (1977). In English, there are two excellent studies by B. S. Adams: ‘The Eclogues of Milós Radnóti’ (Slavonic and East European Review, 1965) and ‘The Lager Verse of Miklós Radnóti’ (ibid., 1967) with translations. Also I. There is no critical edition of Szabó as yet. Összegyűjtött versei (1960; 3rd enlarged ed. 2 vols. 1974). There are several selections, of which Válogatott versei, 1922-1956 (1956) contains a reappraisal by fellow-poet Gy. Illyés, also Napló, levelek, cikkek, ed. by L. Kabdebó (1974). There is a small selection in English translation by Edwin Morgan in New Hungarian Quarterly (1968), and in J. Grosz and W. A. Boggs: Hungarian Anthology, 2nd ed. (Toronto, 1966) and a single poem in T. Kabdebó’s 100 Hungarian Poems (Manchester, 1976).

Ég és föld között (1976) is the latest collection of poems by György Sárközi, with an introduction by Gy. Illyés.

Radnóti is widely available. The latest edition of his collected poems is in Radnóti Miklós művei (1976). There is a growing interest in Radnóti in English speaking countries. Postcards tr. by S. Polgár et al. (Cummington Press, Iowa, 1969). A selection of poems is in Just for All That, No. 1(Georgetown, Guyana,1971), ed. by T. Kabdedó. Clouded Sky, tr. by S. Polgár et al. (N.Y., 1972). G. C. In English there is ‘Up the Priafore’ in Hungaria (1936); ‘The Organ’ in Hungarian Short Stories (1967); and ‘Blood’ in Literary Review (1976), also in New Hungarian Quarterly (1969).

A. E. Gelléri’s Összegyűjtött novellái, 2 vols. (1964); Egy önérzet története, 3rd ed. (1975).
