Introduction

As a response to our circular on the Budapest Conference, 71 papers have been announced by authors from 36 different countries. 220 colleagues from 36 countries have informed us about their wish to attend the meeting.

In the 1st Circular on the Conference, we asked those wishing to contribute with papers to forward us an abstract of each paper in English and French, the two official languages of the international associations organizing the Conference. Most of the authors have satisfied our request. Some of them, however, have sent us their abstracts in one language only. Therefore, these have been reproduced that way.

The abstracts received have been very different in style, usage and grammatical performance. Therefore, we have reproduced them in original reading with slight corrections in spelling and grammar, where unavoidable. In a few cases, abstracts exceedingly larger than admissible have had to be shortened.

The papers received in full have been inserted in the following four thematical groups:

1. Subsurface water movements, filtration, hydrodynamics, models
2. Regional hydrogeological elaborations, general description, tectonics and hydrogeology. Thermal waters. Mineral waters
3. Hydrogeological mapping, geophysical and geochemical data
4. Water exploitation, wells, water regime, water balance, subsurface thermal energy, water recharge. Pollution

In the present volume, the abstracts have been reproduced in thematical grouping in alphabetical order of author's names.
