Preface
History of the nearly two-hundred-year-old Hungarian geology has been extensively investigated in recent years. Though entitled the Brief History of Hungarian Geology, this study includes the history of stratigraphic and tectonic research only. It is a piece of a series, the first issue of which was published on the history of mineral resource exploration in 1989 on the occasion of the Washington INHIGEO Symposium. Work is in progress on the mineralogical-petrological and palaeontological volumes.
The present work describes the development of geology (stratigraphy and tectonics) from the beginning up to the present, including the geological research carried out in the area of one-time Hungary.
